But it happened and so, when on the basis of a general interest in science two people fell in love and began to create together. Often these couples did a really great discovery and made their names in history.

1. Marie-Anne and Antoine Lavoisier

, Marie-Anne and Antoine Lavoisier were well-known scientists, who have made several major discoveries in the field of chemistry in the 1700s. He married when Mary was only 13 years, the couple received a dowry and a full equipped chemical laboratory, which began to carry out various experiments. Antoine Marie and began to study the role of oxygen in respiration of plants and animals as well as its properties during combustion. Scientists have identified that water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen, and in the course of their experiments have proved the law of conservation of mass, which states that any chemical reaction can not change the total weight of the material.

2. Marie and Pierre Curie

Polish girl Maria Sklodowska met her future husband, Pierre Curie, while working in the laboratory in Paris in 1894. When Pierre asked for the hand of Mary for the first time, she refused and returned home to Warsaw. But soon Pierre convinced her to come back to Paris after he told them in detail on the ongoing large-scale study of magnetism. Intrigued Curie returned to France and began work on his doctoral thesis on uranium, which led to her discovery of radioactivity in 1895. The couple married in the same year and the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that lasted until Pierre's untimely death in 1906.

3. Gerty and Carl Cori

Gerty and Carl Cori met as students at the University of Prague and got married as soon as they graduated in 1920. After moving to the United States, Cory started working at the National Institute of Oncology. Roswell to Buffalo, New York, where he studied the metabolism of carbohydrates. Particular attention they paid to the way the human body handles glucose. As a result, the pair opened mechanism by which glucose derivative used glycogen in muscle tissue for energy. 5. May-Britt and Edvard Moser

May-Britt and Edvard Moser met while studying psychology at the University of Oslo. As a husband and wife in 2001, they continued research biologist John O'Keefe in molecular body positioning systems in space. Moser opened the second key component of this system - the cells that create three-dimensional coordinate system in the brain, by means of which we can navigate the world. Couple together with O'Keefe were awarded the Nobel Prize in 2014 for his discovery and description of a process called "internal GPS of the brain."
