Building of an elementary school in the US

• The building of a primary school in the United States

The new building of the primary school in Woodland, USA, designed by a team of HMFH Architects, working on his concept in close collaboration with the teachers.

The educational program of the school is built around team work methods and inclusive education, using the methods of work in small groups, individual training and project work, as well as other educational technologies designed to meet each student's needs. All this is reflected in the architecture school designed for 985 students, which is available as a series of common spaces and rooms for small groups.

Constructive basis of the school's hull, designed for grades 3-5, was the division of space in accordance with the educational streams. Classes of each academic year occupies one floor of the building wing, they are grouped into three smaller clusters, each of which, in turn, is located six classrooms and a common space outside of classes. This media area, an amphitheater, a circular room for interviews and facilities for a variety of other activities, making it possible to carry out a variety of flexible approaches to learning. The project area includes sinks, to carry out "dirty" practical training. Teachers can easily move from the classroom to the great mass gatherings, group projects or working sessions of small groups in adjacent classrooms. A three-storey academic building flanked by two wings of public spaces: the dining wing and Art, which houses a café and a theater hall with a stage, music room, art classes, species balcony and administrative offices; and sport wing, containing a gymnasium and multi-purpose sports center.

The building is faced with concrete panels and brick muted warm colors, bay windows decorated with bright color accents, giving the facade element of surprise.

Construction of a new primary school helped to solve several important issues faced by the city related to the reform of the local education system and increasing the number of primary school-age children. The new building was constructed next to the existing school, allowing students to attend classes without interruption until a new school was built.
