Unusual house in Kyoto

The architects of the two studios - Yukawa Kohei and Hiroto Kawaguchi & Associates - have worked on the project of a private residence in one of the suburbs of Kyoto, Japan.

The main wish of the customer was to get home, harmoniously connected with the environment. So finding a way to incorporate into the space housing the blue sky and the kind of the cherry blossoms were one of the important tasks of designers.

The building consists of three volumes of connected shaped houses with gabled roofs, each of which performs its function. On two opposite sides placed "house parents" and "children's house", located in the center of an extremely open "Home for All". The complex organization of each home space involves the creation of different areas by raising and lowering the floor level, a broad multi-steps, recesses and niches.

The architects have made sure that the residents feel "living in the landscape" as a series of building volumes will organize a series of views of the surrounding landscape, opening up a variety of sizes and shapes of windows.
