At the end of 2004 in the Russian rolling out the film by Paul McGuigan (who directed the TV series "Sherlock"), titled "Obsession" - an amazing, magical picture with Diane Kruger, Josh Hartnett, Rose Byrne and Matthew Lillard in the lead roles, which enjoyed great popularity among female half.
However, critics but Ebert and Roper, the film smashed to smithereens. And then it turned out that this is just an American remake of the French film - far more mysterious and romantic.
Successful businessman Max (Vincent Cassel), who in the past has been a bohemian writer, returns to Paris from New York and was going to marry, but then accidentally saw a girl who, as he seems to be very similar to Lisa (Monica Bellucci), which he had -That loved and which broke up in strange circumstances. Forgetting everything else, Max goes in search of her, without the help of best friend Lucien (Jean-Philippe Ekoffe). Footprints lead to the kind of apartment where the hero meets a girl very similar to Lisa, who claims that this is it and there. What does it mean?
"Apartment" - the only full-length work of French director Gilles Mimouni, which, however, did not prevent the film become almost a masterpiece. The film is made very thin, in her desire to learn the truth becomes an obsession, curiosity borders on insanity, and by Monica Bellucci comes this incredible magnetism that the desire of the hero Vincent Cassel in whatever was to find Lisa absolutely clear.
By the way, the fact that the film put the Shakespeare play "Midsummer Night's Dream" is not accidental: plot motifs "Apartments", where the characters are entangled, unable to understand, they love, forced to speak of it as a modern interpretation of this comedy - true, still with a dramatic twist.
In 1998, the film deservedly won several awards - the British Film Academy Award (BAFTA) for Best Foreign Language Film Award and British Independent Film as the best foreign language film.
We can not say that a remake of "apartments", "Obsession" worse. But ... "Apartment" is still a French film. Mysterious and unique, it looks the same breath, combining detective and love drama. Try to look at it after the movie McGuigan - and appreciate the charm of the original. And Monica Bellucci in the same year was nominated for the award "Cesar" as a promising actress - so that we can speak with confidence that the "apartment" was her discovery.
