Earth Day was first organized in 1970 and held in the spring to draw attention to the fragile and vulnerable environment on planet Earth. This year's Earth Day was held for 45 times.
In the last 45 years the population of our planet has doubled, and 75 percent of people alive today were born after 1970.
There are two main periods of Earth Day in March (near the vernal equinox) and 22 April.
