Berlin from height of the Berlin Cathedral
• Berlin from height of the Berlin Cathedral
Today we look at Berlin from a height of one of the most beautiful buildings in the capital of Germany - Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom). For almost a week spent in walks, driveways and runs through Berlin, nice facilities there I have not seen.
On the other hand the cathedral is a park Lustgarten, which for centuries was constantly changing its appearance.
to climb upward begins with a tour of the decoration of the cathedral. We go inside.
Berlin Cathedral - the largest Protestant church in Germany, is made in the Baroque style and was built for 11 years, from 1894 to 1905. Inside the cathedral is impressive as well as the outside.
In the cathedral crypt is opened for inspection of the Hohenzollern dynasty, where among the graves - a magnificent sarcophagus of the Great Elector and his wife Dorothea.
The original building of the cathedral with the dome had a height of 114 meters, but after the reconstruction of buildings, severely damaged during the Second World War, its height became smaller and now stands at 98 meters.
The Cathedral after reconstruction was re-inaugurated on 6 June 1993 and has struck visitors with its magnificent interior decoration. I confess, I struck too.
The legend says that if you stand under the dome of the most central and lift up your head up, you can see this picture:
Before we go upstairs with you, you have to look at all the angles.
But the cathedral inside inspected; begin their ascent of the stairs to the observation deck, located on the outside perimeter of the dome. At one level, there is a showroom, which displays models of the great cathedrals of the world:
All properly examined, climb even higher. Ladders already become - a sure sign that we are almost there.
And here we are at the top; sorry, light cloudiness does not give bright colors, but in any case it's better than the fog, as in the day of our first visit to Berlin.
TV Tower Berlin - main dominant of the city and the tallest building in Germany. On the observation deck, which is located inside the ball, we'll still go up. Later.
And this is a round dome of the New Synagogue, built in the years 1859-1866 on Oraninburger street in the Mitte district. Main Synagogue, among other things, the Berlin Jewish community.
If you look closely, it is almost in the center of the image, somewhere far away. Spree river bends around the Museum Island:
Directly in front of the cathedral is Lustgarten park, which is a green lawn with a lawn in the center of which is a fountain. But it was not always so.
By the end of the Second World War in 1945. Lustgarten park was a bombed-out wasteland. The modern look of the park acquired September 24, 1999, was opened after reconstruction.
A on the left of the Cathedral, just across the street, on Schloßplatz not so nice, there are under construction and cranes are operating:
Coach:
Somewhere in the distance, the Red Town Hall, too, is under construction and are so spoil all kind of cranes:
the balcony of a house across the street - with chairs, tables and sun loungers. Lie and sunbathe:
Spree River skirts the Museum Island and located on it Cathedral and carries its waters somewhere further:
The fountain in front of the cathedral, which can be seen in the first picture, but now from a different angle:
Red Town Hall - City Hall - is considered one of the oldest buildings in the city and was built in the middle of the XIX century. Here and now meets the mayor and the Senate of Berlin, as well as pass receptions and diplomatic meetings:
Berlin TV Tower (left) and St. Mary's Church - Marienkirche - right:
In a warm sunny day nice to lie on the grass in the park Lustgarten in front of the cathedral:
A piece of Antiquities Museum (Altes Museum). Front of the stairs in the center of a granite vase sculpted by Christian Gottlieb Kantianom (1794-1866), if Wikipedia is not lying.
It Nikolaikirhe, aka St. Nicholas Church - the oldest church in Berlin.
Located in the historic quarter of Saint Nicholas:
Well, everything is examined, it is time to descend from heaven to earth. Going down to the cathedral, once again raising its head to the dome - it's worth it:
Finally - a panoramic view of the Cathedral, where we just were, from Altes Muzeum.
