The festival is considered one of the most well-established and prestigious Gothic festivals in the world. The first festival was organized in 1994 by Joe Hampshire, who has decided to bring together their pen pals.

Since 1994, the festival has grown into one of the largest gothic musical events in the world, and is now held twice a year.
